Desmodromic Valve System

Patented technology by Ducati.
We dont know the performance benefits compared to spring valve system.
But since Ducati continue to use this system in Motogp inspite of others using pneumatic vale systems (which is better than spring ones) suggest maybe it is at par. But again, Ducati road bikes frequently require valve adjustments, which suggests a flaw in this system.

Ducati wont be willing to accept it, just as they haven't accepted that a carbon-fibre design with engine as stressed member is flawed and have gone ahead and used it on their flagship model 1199 Panigale. Wonder what reputation damage it may inflict upon Ducati, should God forbid, there are serious handling issues with their best bike till date.
We will then have a corrected 1199 Panigale 'SP' or a 1199 Panigale 'RR' with a twin spar frame like the GP12.
Hope Rossi can tame the GP12. It was really a shame watching a wonderful rider like him suffering the entire season on a stupid bike which doesnt want to turn into corners.

No one can deny the capabilities of the Ducati design team , but they seem to be more conventional when it comes to certain things and stubborn in the others.
eg.
Conventional:
L-twin. The Desmosedici RR was 4 cylinder and sounded fantastic. Why does Ducati want to rob enthusiasts of good sounding engines?

Stubborn:
Carbon-fibre frame. No motogp rider could ever know the limits of the frame. You push and you taste tarmac. Why even implement such thing on a road bike and that too on a revolutionary one like 1199 Panigale. I would never buy that thing simply because I know I won't be able to take it around bends.
90 degree engine: They just cant let it go. Why not try and make a more compact engine? It definitely wont rob you of horse-power but will definitely improve handling.

But hey, a Ducati is a Ducati, take it or leave it.
And I for sure would be taking any one of those on any given day purely on the basis of looks.
(Except 1199 until its proven to be really good)
